Best Chocolate-Scented Perfumes

With Valentine’s candy on sale and the Easter goodies already fully stocked in the stores, this seemed like the perfect time to talk about chocolate fragrances! The cacao pod is actually used in fragrances a lot, which makes perfect sense as so many of us love the taste of chocolate and taste and smell are so closely intertwined.

Some of these fragrances smell just like a chocolate dessert!

Below are some of the best (and my favorite!) chocolate-focused fragrances. There are many different styles listed so there is sure to be something here for every taste, even for those who don’t care for overly-sweet fragrances. Check it out!

Cacao beans are the star in these fragrances

Cacharel Yes I Am Delicious

  • Top Notes: green mandarin, cardamom essence, cocoa cremoso
  • Middle Notes: jasmine super infusion, orange flower (orange blossom)
  • Base Notes: sandalwood, hazelnut chocolate milk
  • Other Notes Perceived: cacao pod, orange, dark chocolate
Powdery hot chocolate vibes

Being a lover of sweet, gourmand fragrances, I am a big fan of Cacharel’s fun-loving ‘Yes I Am’ line. Yes I Am Delicious is the 4th flanker in this popular and affordable collection. This fragrance truly is delicious-smelling and reminds me of powdered cocoa mixed with powdery vanilla sugar. It has a very warm & cozy vibe and brings to mind being wrapped up in a fluffy blanket in front of the fireplace with a hot chocolate. Really yummy and comforting, I definitely love this one!

Yes, this does smell delicious!

This is a more intimate fragrance and projection is on the lighter side. I get a couple hours of a light scent bubble around me and then a few hours more of a light skin scent before it fades away. The entire Yes I Am line comes at a very reasonable price point and there’s often handy gift sets for a great deal at both Macy’s and Amazon. I also love the cute ‘lipstick’ bottles, you can just tell the fragrance is going to be fun! Bottom line: this smells incredible and anytime I wear it, I can’t stop sniffing my arm, lol 😁 Read about more warm & cozy fragrances here.

Gallagher Fragrances Wicked Good

  • Notes (linear fragrance): milk chocolate, tonka bean absolute, and genuine Madagascar vanilla absolute
The name is accurate, this truly does smell ‘wicked good!’

I find a lot of the time with chocolate fragrances, they will either lean sort of ‘Tootsie-Roll-ish‘ or powdery hot chocolatey, as with the aforementioned Yes I Am Delicious. I would say with Gallagher’s Wicked Good, you sort of get both impressions. It starts out very Tootsie Roll-ish with a bit of a light woodsy vibe. There’s also a yummy powdery vanilla sugar impression that reminds me a touch of Xerjoff’s Lira but with chocolate added. The tonka here leans in a slightly almondy direction adding in even more gourmandy goodness. It gets smoky, woodsy, and less chocolatey as it dries down. The tonka also becomes more prominent.

Chocolate & vanilla yumminess

The projection is pretty good and it lasts pretty well, at least 5-6 hours. Definitely unisex and interestingly, the opening leans feminine but the dry down is more masculine-ish to me. This is an interesting, scrumptious, sophisticated gourmand and a must-try for chocolate lovers!

Pinrose Gilded Fox

  • Top Notes: cocoa spice, coffee, cardamom, black pepper, bergamot
  • Middle Notes: neroli, iris, jasmine, clove, rose
  • Base Notes: buttered rum, vetiver, cedar, musk, caramel, amber
Rummy, chocolatey iris

This beautiful fragrance opens with lots of spices along with the chocolate. I get lots of the cardamom and pepper along with some brightness from the bergamot. There are some light ‘Tootsie Roll’ vibes but it’s also a touch powdery from the beautiful iris note. The rum is a fun touch and reminds me of a rum-flavored chocolate Frango candy. Sweet, spicy, gourmand, and yummy with chocolate definitely as the star of the show.

Powdery and spicy gourmand

I get decent projection from this fragrance but it is not the longest-lasting one of the bunch. I feel inclined to spray again after a few hours. But it’s a really beautiful and unique chocolate fragrance that is quite addictive. This powdery, warm, and pretty gem is definitely worth a sniff. Maison Tahité Cacao²

  • Top Notes: cinnamon
  • Middle Notes: labdanum, toasted notes
  • Base Notes: cocoa, vanilla, cedar, vetiver, benzoin, ambery notes, amber
Dark chocolate squared

Fellow gourmand lovers, take note! If you are not yet familiar with the fabulous house of Maison Tahité, you will definitely want to check them out. They are a relatively new house and so far have specialized in gourmand collections. Their first was a line of wonderful vanillas, then came a collection of cacao creations (three of which I explore here), and most recently, a line of coffee fragrances.

Deep, dark, and cozy vibes

Meant to mimic extra dark chocolate, Cacao² offers an opening of lots of deep, dark chocolate, along with a bit of cinnamon and cedar. It’s deep, cozy, gourmandy, and woodsy. It brings to mind a delicious Mexican hot chocolate/espresso drink. It also kind of reminds me of a heavy chocolate-flavored stout. If this had a color, it would be a thick, syrupy dark brown that’s almost black. Performance is pretty moderate all around and this is easily unisex. A great one for lovers of deep and dark fragrances to try.

Maison Tahité Vicious Cacao

  • Top Notes: raspberry, rose pepper, rum
  • Middle Notes: amber, narcissus, cocoa absolute, jasmine
  • Base Notes: salty caramel, sandalwood, saffron, oak moss, benzoin
Very delicious, not so vicious

This yummy-smelling sweet treat is my favorite so far of the Maison Tahité cacao fragrances I’ve tried. It is definitely the sweetest and most candy-like of the 3 reviewed here. It opens sweet & chocolatey with a very light floral feel. There’s some powdery and woodsy impressions, too. The raspberry is super yummy and adds to the candy vibes. It’s really warm and ambery with the caramel, benzoin, amber, and rum notes. I get lots of rummy salted caramel here, it smells sooooo delicious!

Salted caramel heaven!

The projection is lightly moderate and the fragrance lasts really well for me, I get 4-5 hours of regular wear and then a few hours more of a faded skin scent. If you like the idea of wearing super delicious salted caramel chocolate, this would be a great one to try.

Maison Tahité Cacao Libertine

  • Top Notes: bergamot, mandarin
  • Middle Notes: cardamom, rose, tuberose
  • Base Notes: cocoa, caramel, vanilla, patchouli, benzoin
Lots of patchouli, rose, & spicy cardamom with this chocolate

This is the chocolate fragrance for the patchouli lovers! I get tons of patchouli right off the bat. There’s a bit of a boozy vibe here as well. It’s a very deep, dark, woodsy, and earthy chocolate. I get lots of rose with this one, as well. There are light touches of caramel and a spicy feel from the cardamom. Overall, a spicy, earthy, and pleasant combination of well-blended notes. If you love the sound of a deep patchouli and rose combo with added chocolate, this is going to be your jam.

Cardamom & cacao pair up perfectly

Projection is on the lighter side. As with most fragrances, I can smell it more when I’m moving around a bit. I get a good 4-5 hours of wear before wanting to reapply. For folks who love the patchouli-rose combo genre, this is well worth trying.

Atelier Materi Cacao Porcelana

  • Top Notes: white cacao from Peru, rum, everlasting (immortelle)
  • Middle Notes: Indian jasmine, light (white) tobacco, davana
  • Base Notes: patchouli, sandalwood, tonka bean
  • Other Note Perceived: musk
Rummy chocolate

This is another deep, dark, cozy fragrance. The opening is slightly herbal from the davana and I get both the patchouli and the boozy rum right away. There’s a light floral vibe from the jasmine. Though it’s not a listed note, I seem to get quite a bit of musk with this fragrance. Overall, it’s very chocolatey with a woodsy, earthy, musky vibe.

Though it’s not an official note, I actually get a lot of musk with this one

The projection is lightly moderate and the longevity is excellent, I can usually still detect it on my skin the next morning after a wearing. This unisex fragrance leans masculine to me and I’m thinking it could be the perfect chocolate fragrance for a guy (though a woman could certainly wear it, too). It’s a beautifully-crafted fragrance that lovers of deep, dark, cozy, ‘chocolate cakey’ patchouli scents will most likely really enjoy.

Akro Dark

  • Notes (linear): cocoa, dark chocolate, cinnamon, hazelnut, vanilla
  • Other Notes Perceived: smoky guaiac wood, ambroxan
All of the notes are well-represented

Akro is a newer and really interesting house created by talented master perfumer Olivier Cresp and his daughter Anaïs. So far, the line has centered around different addictions and this particular fragrance explores the craving of chocolate, specifically dark chocolate. They have done an excellent job capturing the essence of delicious dark chocolate here. I get yummy impressions of the hazelnut, vanilla, cinnamon, and, of course, the cocoa/dark chocolate. All of the listed notes are well-represented here.

Are you a chocolate addict??

The projection is moderate and quite long-lasting for me. This fragrance seems perfectly unisex to me. A little sweet, a little smoky, and a lot delicious-smelling, this one was a real winner for me. I had seen some compare this fragrance to one of my very favorites, Maison Margiela’s By The Fireplace and I have to agree, it’s almost like a chocolate flanker of it.

Montale Chocolate Greedy

  • Notes (linear): chocolate ganache, cocoa powder, bitter orange
  • Other Notes Perceived: vanilla, tonka bean, coffee, dried fruits
Lots of delicious-smelling notes here

This yummy treat opens with a blast of pure milk chocolate. It’s got a slightly caramelized vibe, like a chocolate bonbon with caramel in the middle or maybe a Caramello bar. I get a lot of the bitter orange note, too. It’s perhaps as if a Chocolate Orange crossed paths with a Caramello. As it dries down, it reminds me more of hot chocolate/cocoa powder and vanilla. It also kind of reminds me of smashed up Cocoa Puffs, lol! I can really see wearing this around the holidays/Christmas as it smells so much like a cozy hot chocolate.

Yummy orangey chocolate dessert vibes

As is typical with Montale fragrances, both the projection and longevity are excellent. Gourmand lovers should definitely try this, especially if they enjoy chocolate scents.

Prada Candy Night

  • Top Notes: neroli, iris, bitter orange
  • Middle Notes: tonka bean, vanilla
  • Base Notes: chocolate, patchouli
Powdery caramel vibes similar to the original Candy but with an added chocolate note

For those familiar with the original Prada Candy, you’ll already know that it is chock full of caramel with a musky, powdery feel. This flanker is quite similar to the original but with an added chocolatey note. It has a slightly deeper vibe and is even more powdery than the original Candy. With lots of clean musk and iris, it has a similar powdery vibe to most of the other flankers from this collection, Candy L’Eau, Candy Florale, and Candy Kiss.

Beautiful iris goes gourmand with added chocolate and vanilla

Projection is on the lighter side and the longevity is average. This is a decidedly feminine fragrance and to my nose, it leans slightly more on the mature side (though of course, I firmly believe anyone can – and should! – wear whatever they like). If you liked the original Candy and enjoy powdery scents, this is worth a try. The price point is also very reasonable.

Pierre Guillaume Musc Maori 04

  • Notes (linear): bergamot, cocoa bean absolute, milk, white musk, Cumaru wood (has a faint, vanilla or cinnamon-like scent), coffee tree blossom, vanilla-scented amber, tonka bean
  • Other Notes Perceived: green notes
Aromatic Earl Grey tea meets hot chocolate

This unique and addictive fragrance by perfumer Pierre Guillaume is a lot of fun to wear! I instantly get the yummy chocolate as the fragrance opens. There’s also woodsy vibes, a touch of spice, and clean musk in the background. At this stage, it smells like a really expensive gourmet hot chocolate. I read a review where someone compared it to chocolate-covered gummy bears and I can kind of see that! It’s not childish or sickly sweet, though. As it dries down, the bergamot becomes a really strong player and the fragrance reminds me a lot of Earl Grey tea or a London Fog latte. Pierre Guillaume’s official website describes it as “a bowl of bergamot-sweetened hot chocolate” and that is a perfectly accurate way to describe this fragrance!

Bergamot, often a ‘supporting role’ note, takes center stage in this fragrance

Projection is gently moderate and the longevity was outstanding for me, the scent lasted through the night into the next morning. Unisex with a possible feminine lean. This fragrance is beautifully well-crafted, as to be expected from this classy house. If your favorite smell is that of delicious Earl Grey tea, you should definitely check this creative fragrance out.

Honorable Mention: NEST New York Cocoa Woods

  • Notes (linear): bittersweet cocoa, Sequoia wood, white sandalwood, tiare blossom, Thai ginger
A gorgeous blend of cocoa, woods, tropical florals, and spicy ginger

This pleasant fragrance focuses on woodsy chocolate with a healthy dose of tropical tiare (Tahitian gardenia) and a hint of ginger. I love how unique this fragrance is, it’s a really beautiful blend of gourmand/woods/floral/spice. I think this would be the perfect fragrance to wear as winter transitions into spring. It has the coziness of the chocolatey wood that really shines in cooler weather combined with the tiare flower, which brings to mind the promise of spring, warmer days, and possibly a tropical vacation!

The tropical tiare flower here has me dreaming of warmer days ahead

The projection is lightly moderate and I find the lasting powder to be very good. The tropical tiare pushes this pretty firmly into the feminine fragrance category. Sadly, I am pretty sure this is a discontinued fragrance (it no longer shows up on NEST’s official website) but it still seems to be showing up on Amazon for now so I’ve linked to that below. 1. I like the new table of contents! At least, I think it is new 🙂

I like powdery vanillas (in the line of Mancera Roses Vanille or even Byredo Gypsy Water a bit) where it feels powdered sugar is tickling my nose. The Carachel sounds good for sure.

Will also need to sniff the Pinrose, Maison Tahite Cacao, Akro, Pierre Guillaume, and Nest. Those sound like the ones with the most potential for me.

A fancy-schmancy chocolate patchouli is the Chanel Exclusif Coromandel. It is really rich and definitely not for a hot day, but also gorgeous in the right weather. Very patchouli heavy, with a rich chololate that is not gourmand but is special.

As always, love the photos! I say it every time but they really do make me smile!

    1. Oh yay! I’m so glad you like the new TOC! I’m still working out a bug in that it doesn’t jump to each item in the mobile version. I need to chat with their customer service to figure out why that’s not working. 🤔

Woot! Yes, you will definitely need to try all of those. I’m REALLY curious how Musc Maori will be for you!

I need to try Coromandel! I know it is really beloved in the fragcomm world and I love most everything by Chanel so maybe next Nordstrom visit!

Thank you so much! The pictures are a labor of love 💖 I’m so glad you enjoy them 😊
