Hall’s Haul: Bath & Body Works Summer 2024 Shower Gels

Well, we’re just jammin’ through the summer, aren’t we? I saw all sorts of emails this week already featuring autumnal products and though I love fall best, I still can’t believe it’s already time to start thinking about it! Though to be honest, I did (unashamedly) buy my first pumpkin spice k-cups in the grocery store this week! Don’t come at me, hahaha! (sidenote: I also bought the smoked butterscotch and it’s sooooo good!)

But for now, it is still quite warm here and I expect at least one more heatwave before August is over so I’m still very much enjoying all things summer-scented. In fact, I stocked up on so many summer Bath & Body Works body washes/shower gels during their last sale, I’m having to divide it up into 2 posts! Today’s batch is just a jumble of fun summer scents that I’m loving and the next post will be focused specifically on gourmands that are perfect for transitioning from summer into fall.

So, now on to the Bath & Body Works summer 2024 shower gels:

Vacation Vibe

• Official Notes: whipped pistachio, sundrenched jasmine, praline amber

I’m starting my list with B&BW’s answer to Sol de Janeiro’s Cheirosa ‘62/Bum Bum Cream, Vacation Vibe. It has very similar notes; Cheirosa ’62’s notes are pistachio, almond, heliotrope, jasmine, vanilla, salted caramel, and sandalwood. They’re both very yummy with a sweet, caramelized pistachio/almondy vibe. Vacation Vibe is warm, cozy, and will transition well from late summer into fall and cooler weather with its rich, gourmandy vibes. This body wash is perfect to layer under other pistachio/nutty fragrances and products like the aforementioned Sol de Janeiro Bum Bum cream and Elie Saab Girl of Now.

Solar Shine

• Official Notes: radiant coconut, sunlit tuberose, bronzed tonka

Solar Shine has tons of solar-sunscreeny coconut and lovely tropical floral vibes. The tonka brings a nice warmth and some depth to the scent. If you love solar-coconutty scents, this will be your jam. It’s a bit sweet but not overly so and not gourmand-leaning like Vacation Vibe is; it’s more clean and a touch soapy. This super beachy fragrance would layer perfectly under Estée Lauder’s Bronze Goddess and other coconutty fragrances (check out my list of the best ones here!)

Meet Me in Miami

• Official Notes: breezy palm trees, cabana coladas, ‘suntanned days’
• Other Notes Perceived: iris, peach

This fun-loving fragrance is young and flirty in feel. I get lots of fruitiness, a ton of dusty coconut, and a bit of a soapy vibe underneath the coconut. I possibly detect some iris with that dusty/light powderiness. I also wonder if there is some peach here as it seems slightly peachy to me and kind of sweet and tart at the same time. I get a similar feel to another B&BW fun getaway scent, Endless Weekend. It also reminds me of Juicy Couture’s Viva La Juicy line and some of Victoria’s Secrets scents, so if you like those types of sweet, fun, flirty fragrances, this should be a winner for you.

Tropidelic

• Official Notes: passion flower, ylang ylang, misty rainforest
• Other Notes Perceived: patchouli, minerals

Ok, I’m not going to lie, this one was NOT my favorite, unfortunately. The notes look great and the reviews I read about the Tropidelic eau de perfume sounded amazing. But the body wash smelled completely different from what I was expecting. I get weird, almost mothball-ish vibes here, along with a bit of an earthy, patchouli impression that smells really overly mature to me. There’s also an odd sort of ‘mineral’ vibe, that reminds me of the smell of old vitamins or something; it’s a touch orangey – like maybe old vitamin C caplets – ? It’s also really soapy. Sadly, this one is a rare miss for me and I don’t really get the beautiful, tropical notes that are listed at all.

I did read one review from someone who stated that though the perfume was amazing, the body wash stank and smelled like moth balls to them, as well, so maybe the perfume just didn’t translate well into a body wash – ? Please let me know if any of you have tried this one and what your impressions were, I’m very curious!

Summertime Surf

• Official Notes: vanilla breeze, sea salt sands, sunny coconut

After the disappointment of Tropidelic, I’m happy to report that Summertime Surf is very solid! I get TONS of beachy coconut with a slightly salty sea breeze vibe. It’s just a touch aquatic but doesn’t lean into ‘men’s aftershave’ territory or anything like that. I also get lots of salty vanilla and I think this would layer really well with any salty vanilla-focused perfume from the Olympéa line, or Salt from Ellis Brooklyn, or Vanilla Vibes from JHAG. Sunkissed

• Official Notes: sun-drenched orange blossom, sparkling sea salt, vanilla breeze
• Other Note Perceived: orange

This feels like an orangey sister scent to Summertime Surf. It’s very warm and solar with impressions of sweet and salty vanilla-orangey yumminess! It recalls childhood summer beach vacations, wearing sunscreen and sipping an Orange Crush soda pop while munching on orange-vanilla saltwater taffy or a Creamsicle! It’s super cozy, nostalgic, and a major love for me! As with Summertime Surf, this would layer perfectly with salty/solar/vanilla perfumes. I think it would especially pair well with Lancôme’s Idôle Aura, which also has a salty orangey-vanilla vibe.

Butterfly

• Official Notes: raspberry nectar, iris petals, airy vanilla
• Other Notes Perceived: musk, strawberry, tuberose, grape, orange

This is really pretty and quite sweet, I get lots of berries and it actually reads a bit more strawberry than raspberry to me but ‘nectar’ is definitely a good descriptor. The vanilla is thick, delicious, and caramelized like syrup. I picture a dense vanilla and berry cake drenched in caramel syrup. There is an unlisted but very prominent musk note here as well. I’m not the biggest fan of musk, as regular readers here know, but I still like this scent a lot (I would like it even better without that musk, though!) I also get impressions of a grapey/bubblegummy tuberose vibe plus orangey fruitiness. It’s overall a very sweet, fruity, musky fragrance.

Sunset Glow – Honorable Mention/trickier to find

• Official Notes: sparkling cherry seltzer, fresh coconut, caramelized vanilla, and dreamy moonflower

This is possibly the most perfect combo of notes for me, ever! I love every note listed and can definitely detect all of them, though cherry is definitely the star of the show here. This is a warm, comforting scent that feels like being encapsulated in a cocoon of cozy, ambery, sweet cherries! A great scent for gourmand cherry scent lovers, if you loved B&BW’s Firecracker Pop (more about that here), this should be a winner for you. Perfect to layer with any of the myriad cherry perfumes that are so popular right now (check out some of them here!) This is also makes a great ‘summer heading into fall’ fragrance.
