No sooner has the Jack-o-Lantern’s candle been extinguished than it seems to be fair game to start up with the holiday planning, shopping, and decorating! I enjoy taking each season as it comes so while I don’t want to skip over the enjoyment of Thanksgiving, I’m also cognizant that many folks like to start their holiday planning sooner rather than later, especially with shipping times being longer these days and the potential for item shortages. In that spirit, I’m going to go ahead and start posting about the wintry and festive things now. If you’re still enjoying the pumpkins, though (guilty!), be sure to check out my favorite pumpkin-scented candles here.
For my first holiday-related post, I’d like to share my favorite Voluspa wintry-scented candles with you. Voluspa’s been one of my favorite candle houses for several years now. I first discovered them in my hair stylist’s salon, of all places! Voluspa started out as many candle-making companies do, in the founder’s kitchen. Today, almost 20 years later, they’ve grown in popularity, are loved by celebrities and regular folks alike, and can be found all over the place; including online, fine gift shops, and even upscale grocery markets. A huge bonus? Their prices are incredibly reasonable for their bougie-level, high quality fragrances. Each scent comes in multiple sizes and price points so there’s sure to be a perfect match for every budget and need. They also offer a cute little one-ounce free sample candle with each order – and even let you choose between three different scents.
Today, I’d like to share six different and unique Voluspa fragrances that are perfect for gifting to family, friends, or yourself 😉 These wintry fragrances will have you feeling excited for the holiday season in no time!
Gilt Pomander & Hinoki
- Notes: golden spiced pomander, holly berries, cardamom, Japanese hinoki bark
- This Fragrance Available In: 5-wick hearth candle, 3-wick hearth candle, 2-wick hearth candle, large jar candle, small jar candle, petite pedestal candle, macaron candle, 3-wick tin candle, mini tin candle, reed diffuser, and scalloped edge candle & diffuser gift set
This elegant candle will have your home filled with all of the best holiday scents: spicy pomander balls, red berries, holiday cooking spices, and woodsy greenery. The rich, woodsy smell of the hinoki (aka Japanese cypress) matched with the orangey citrus of the pomander is sure to bring to mind a cozy holiday scene. The glass jar is absolutely gorgeous and even more so when lit; the flickering illumination shows through the flocked design to beautiful effect.
If it’s been a hot minute since you made your own pomander ball (I hadn’t made one since I was a tiny nugget) or perhaps you’ve never made one at all, I highly recommend it! It’s suuuuuper easy and makes a great activity to share with the littles in your life. I made mine in literally less than ten minutes; sitting on my couch with nothing more than a dish towel on my lap (to catch any stray sprays of OJ), a toothpick, an orange, a tiny handful of cloves, and some old ribbon saved from gifts past (all of which I already had on hand). Better Homes & Gardens has a simple how-to here.

Burning Woods
- Notes: smoky cedar, burning woods, embers, Himalayan juniper
- This Fragrance Available In: luxe candle, classic candle, petite jar candle, 3-wick tin candle, mini tin candle, and reed diffuser
Who doesn’t love a late autumn/early winter bonfire? There’s something so wonderfully cozy about getting all bundled up and sitting around a fire with a small group of family and/or friends. The cold air on your cheeks, the crackling fire, perhaps a toasted marshmallow or a couple of s’mores… all magical. And this candle perfectly captures that feeling and presents it in incredibly beautiful packaging.

Branche Vermeil
- Notes: silver cypress, cedar, pine needles
- This Fragrance Available In: grande maison candle, corta maison candle, 3-wick octagon tin candle, mini tin candle, and reed diffuser
If you’ve ever wished you could have the glorious smell of a Christmas tree in your home year-round, look no further than this beautifully woodsy scent. Also reminiscent of a walk through a forest on a cool, crisp day, this arboreous fragrance perfectly encapsulates the essence of gorgeous evergreens.
Editor’s note: sadly, this fragrance seems to be discontinued since the writing of this blog post, and has become quite tricky to find. Best bet may to be to look for a reputable seller on a marketplace site such as eBay or Mercari.

Forbidden Fig
- Notes: ripened fig, velvety musk, midnight rose, fig leaf
- This Fragrance Available In: 5-wick hearth candle, large jar candle, chawan bowl candle, small jar candle, petite jar candle, classic candle, 3-wick tin candle, mini tin candle, reed diffuser, and room & body spray
I love a good fig scent and there are so many ways it can be interpreted. Some fig fragrances are very green and earthy, including the scent of the leaves and stems. Some concentrate more on the fruit itself and are creamy and almost coconutty. This particular one is very jammy, warm, and, combined with the rose, slightly floral. The fig leaf note also brings a slight greenness to the composition. A very lovely and versatile fragrance that will easily feel at home lit in any season.

White Cypress
- Notes: white cypress, juniper berry, mint leaves, evergreen wood
- This Fragrance Available In: 5-wick hearth candle, 3-wick hearth candle, 2-wick hearth candle, large jar candle, small jar candle, petite pedestal candle, macaron candle, seasonal 3-wick tin candle, mini tin candle, and reed diffuser
Another lovely woodsy/tree fragrance. If you’re wondering how this scent differs from the other cypress-featured fragrance, Branche Vermeil, I would say this one is even MORE fresh and green. The added mint gives it a very refreshing feel, like everyone’s favorite sparking candy, Wint-O-Green Life Savers. Both fragrances are lovely, woodsy, and will remind you of Christmas trees and holiday greenery.

Crushed Candy Cane
- Notes: crisp peppermint, fresh-baked cookies
- This Fragrance Available In: limited edition hearth 5-wick glass candle, classic candle, small jar candle, 2-wick table tin candle, 3-wick tin candle, and macaron candle
I’m going to end this on a sweet note with this delicious holiday gourmand lover’s dream. Picture a crisp December day with snowflakes gently falling outside and delicious homemade sugar cookies baking inside. You crush up some peppermint candy canes and sprinkle them over the top of the cookies. Mmmm… holiday perfection! And that’s exactly what this delicious treat smells like. Sure to become a family favorite, this scent is worth stocking up on for holiday seasons to come.

I’ve seen this line but haven’t ever tried, I’m always worried a candle won’t live up to my high expectations of scent throw! These sound amazing..will pick one up next time 😍
I’ve been pretty satisfied with the throw. If one is lit on my fireplace, I can easily smell across the living room. Great thing about this line is you can always start with a small one to see how it performs and they’re only about $10-15 max. Please let me know if you end up checking one out, I’d love to hear how you like it! 😊
Okay, well this post is Peak Jen. Amazing pics, cute cats, fun projects, and something sweet at the end! I love it all. And now I want to light all the candles. 😀
These all sound right up my alley and I could not decide based on descriptions. Voluspa candles are so scented, I haven’t come across a single one with muted scent. I have an abundance of pine scented candles, so probably would try the fig or the bonfirey one first.
Awww, you’re the sweetest! Thank you for the lovely and kind words 🥰
Oooh yes! You NEED Burning Woods in your life! It’s the little sister of our beloved Feu de Bois! 🔥 And the fig is great, too, of course! 💖
